Agriculture Engineer

We are looking for an experienced, driven Agriculture Engineer with construction experience. To ensure success, the ideal candidate should be comfortable splitting their hours between the office, on-site visits and engaging the communities.

The Agriculture Engineer plans and oversees construction projects related to issues like water drainage, land restoration, and irrigation. The Agricultural Engineer solves problems concerning power supplies, machine efficiency, the use of structures and facilities, pollution and environmental issues, and the storage and processing of agricultural products. Agricultural engineers are subject-matter experts that use GPS, weather data, and other computer modelling tools to provide advice to increase agricultural productivity. Engineers are also tasked with building structures for loading, food processing, animal processing, and crop storing. While supervising a construction project, agricultural engineers discuss progress with clients, contractors, consultants, and other engineers to keep the project structurally sound and on track.

They should be critical thinkers and have a sound subject knowledge of mathematics and physics to identify and solve construction problems. You must also possess a certain level of creativity in order to present innovative solutions and improvements to technical processes. The successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate ideas, make recommendations, and negotiate project details with their team, subcontractors, and communities.

Agriculture Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture engineering
  • Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer may be required.
  • A minimum of three years’ industry knowledge may be strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with design software, such as Autodesk, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and MicroStation.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design.
  • Excellent time management skills to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Leadership skills to effectively manage a diverse group of labour working on projects.
  • Ability to coordinate more than one project at a time.

AGRICULTURE ENGINEER Responsibilities:

  • Developing detailed designs.
  • Doing feasibility assessments and site inspections.
  • Preparing and implementing project plans.
  • Researching and providing estimates for projects.
  • Reviewing government regulations and ordinances.
  • Monitoring and optimizing safety procedures, production processes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Making recommendations or presenting alternative solutions to problems.
  • Confidently liaising with communities and subcontractors.
  • Project management duties (e.g. managing budgets, resources, and deadlines; acquiring and compiling quotes, etc.).

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

FOR EXTERNAL PROJECT EVALUATION OF Curriculum Implementation Support for Training Institutes (CISTI) Project

Contract Period: February 2022 to end of March 2022 (not later than 15th April 2022)

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Introduction

Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT) is seeking to hire a consultant(s) to conduct a comprehensive external evaluation for the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) funded project “Curriculum Implementation Supports for Training Institutes (CISTI)”. The evaluator is free to propose the methodologies and tools that will be used in the evaluation exercise. These Terms of Reference (ToR) serve as a request for proposals from individual consultants/firms interested in conducting this evaluation.

Expected Deliverables 

The consultant(s) will be expected to submit the following deliverables in line with the agreed deadlines:

  1. Inception report with detailed interpretation of terms of reference, clearly stating the approach, methodology, workplan and instruments/tools for undertaking the evaluation exercise including a tabulation plan of how each indicator will be obtained;
  2. One electronic file of the clean (final) qualitative and quantitative data collected;
  3. Draft final evaluation report which shall be presented to SAT management team for comments within two weeks after submission;
  4. Validation workshop report(s) and presentation of preliminary evaluation findings
  5. Final evaluation report with ATIs individual reports as appendices; Three hard bound copies of final evaluation report, soft copies of the reports and data sets, a summary version of the final evaluation report (max.2 pages), copies of the relevant data collection tools, a compendium of photographs of the major scenes observed during evaluation and a snapshot view of individual reports for each ATI visited.

All of the above-mentioned documents shall be submitted to SAT management team within 15 days after completion of the fieldwork.

Qualifications and expertise 

  • A post graduate degree in relevant discipline related to this assignment.
  • Excellent track record in designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research, analysis and evaluation.
  • Proven experience of minimum 5 years in undertaking evaluation of donor funded projects related to education, agriculture and development sectors, research and analysis.
  • Ability to produce well written, analytical reports in English is essential.
  • Knowledge of evaluation of capacity building activities and familiarity with the theory of change technique.
  • Experience of evaluating Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) based projects/programs.

Training Centre Administrator alias Hotel Manager

We are looking for an experienced Training Centre Administrator with experience in Hotel Management. As our Training Centre Administrator, you will oversee the daily operations of our Centre and provide strategic direction. You will plan and supervise the activities of an extensive and diverse workforce to ensure the smooth and profitable running of the training centre and the accommodation of trainees (up to 100). The goal is to enhance customer dedication and expand our clientele by strengthening our Training Centre’s reputation.

The Training Centre Administrator needs to be involved in all aspects of the Training Centre operations. You will plan and oversee logistics, accommodation and food and be responsible for dealing with complaints. You will be a crucial person of reference for employees and trainees as well as external vendors. The Training Centre Administrator must be able to guide staff to work as a well-functioning team. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be a team player and an effective leader, who sets examples and fosters a climate of cooperation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise work at all levels (receptionist, kitchen staff, maids, maintenance work etc.) and set clear objectives
  • Plan activities and allocate responsibilities to achieve the most efficient operating model
  • Manage budgets/expenses, analyze and interpret financial information
  • Develop and implement an intuitive and efficient marketing strategy to promote the Farmer Training Centre’s services
  • Communicate with customers when appropriate (welcome them in the facilities, address their complaints, find solutions to problems, offer information etc.)
  • Deal with maintenance issues, shortages in staff or equipment, renovations etc.
  • Collaborate with external parties such as suppliers, transport services, external trainers, event/conference planners etc.
  • Interview, hire, train and terminate staff
  • Monitor staff performance, ensuring the Training Centre is running well and guests are happy
  • Inspect facilities regularly and enforce strict compliance with cleanliness as well as health and safety standards
  • Support the farm manager in administrative tasks
  • Oversee and manage the stock

Requirements

  • Proven experience as Hotel Manager or relevant role
  • Fluency in Swahili and English
  • Understanding of all hotel management best practices and relevant laws and guidelines
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; knowledge of hotel management software (PMS) is an advantage
  • Excellent customer service skills as well as a business mindset
  • Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • Reliable with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
  • Outstanding leadership skills and a great attention to detail
  • Degree in Business Administration, Hotel/Hospitality Management or relevant field

Farmer Training Centre Farm Manager

Job brief 

We are looking for an experienced Farm Manager to work at SAT-Farmer Training centre Farm. As a farm manager, you’ll be responsible for the work of farm staff, farm administrative issues and all financial aspects of the farm. As the farm manager, you will also deal directly with suppliers, customers and other stakeholders. Keeping up with new developments and ensuring compliance with regulations also falls under your areas of responsibility. Many farms have diversified in recent years and include keeping livestock of varying species and all these projects will also be overseen by you in your role. Note that many farms are concerned with arable crops as well as livestock so please check the reference for Farm Manager (Crops) as well. Your duties will vary with the type of livestock being reared.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing breeding programs of farm animals
  • Implementing new agroecological farming technologies which minimizes costs and enhances production and productivity
  • Ensuring the farm is compliant with various legal guidelines and working to minimize the environmental impact of the business, for instance via waste disposal
  • Monitoring the health and welfare of the livestock
  • Keeping all farm records including the movements of all livestock into and out from the farm
  • With the support of the Horticulture expert /supervisor ensure the horticulture section is properly managed and production is enhanced
  • Marketing and selling the livestock and livestock products to a variety of customers
  • Managing any farm diversification activities
  • Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.
  • Undertaking practical work as necessary depending on the volume of work
  • Recruiting and managing farm staff following discussion with the management and ensuring they work safely and effectively
  • Managing cash flow and developing and monitoring budgets

As a Farm Manager, you’ll be likely to spend a lot of your time in the office and farm making sure that everything is moving along profitably and dealing with suppliers, customers and other stakeholders. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be expected to undertake manual work around the farm at times which may involve physical labour in dirty conditions.

You’ll need to be able to manage a team and solve problems as they arise without delay. Generally, the role is for someone who is interested in farming as a business enterprise, as well as in science and nature generally.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE DEMANDED?

Applicants will be required to have a relevant minimum Diploma in Livestock, animal production, range management or Animal science or Degree in Agricultural Sciences.

Working experience Minimum 3 years.

Alternatively, the candidate may have originally commenced employment in a farm business as a farm worker with an Apprenticeship level qualification in a subject such as Agriculture, specializing in livestock or animal husbandry

The ability to make decisions in stressful environments, super communication and interpersonal skills and willingness to work overtime as required will be a plus.
